Perur TempleOften referred to as 'the Manchester of South India' or "The Textile Capital of South India", Coimbatore is renowned for its numerous textile mills. Primarily a business center, it is known for the manufacturing of motor pump sets and various engineering and electronic goods.

The tourist places at Coimbatore include - V.O. Chidambaram Park with a mini zoo and a children's amusement park, the Forest College Museum, City museum, Perur Patteeswara Swamy temple, the Marudhamalai temple of Lord Muruga and the Sri Mahalakshmi temple.

Tourist Attractions

V.O.C. Park & Zoo - An amusement park, V.O.C. Park & Zoo are named after the famous freedom fighter V.O. Chidambaram. The park is an interesting place to visit in Coimbatore, especially for kids. The main attractions within the park include an aquarium, a mini zoo, and a toy train for joyrides.

Perur Temple - 7 kms west of Coimbatore, this ancient temple was built by Karikala Chola and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Also known as Mel Chidambaram, the exquisite sculptures in Kanagasabai are the main tourist attraction.

Marudhamalai Temple
Marudhamalai TempleLocated on a hillock, the temple of Marudhamalai, dedicated to Lord Subramanya, is one of the most visited temples in the region. Large number of devotees flock the temple due to the reason that the residing deity Dandayuthapani is believed to have performed several miracles here.

Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary
Anamalai wildlife sanctuary is about 90-km from Coimbatore and is situated at an altitude of 1,400 meters in the Western Ghats near Pollachi. The sanctuary is spread across an area of 958 sq. kms. and is an ecological paradise. This sanctuary encompasses a National Park. The sanctuary has been recently renamed as Indira Gandhi wildlife sanctuary.

Besides these, the other attention-grabbing places in the city are temples like the Vinayaga Temple, Thayumanaswamy Temple, Thirumoorthy Temple, Elakurichi church, Siruvani waterfalls, Khadi Gandhi Gallery, Forest College Museum and a historical monument Narthamalai to name a few.

Location:
Coimbatore is situated in the western parts of the state of Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore lies at the foot of the quaint Nilgiri Hills and is situated at an elevation of about 398 meters.

Best Time and Climate:
The climate of Coimbatore city is moderate and pleasant throughout the year. Summers are hot with the maximum temperature reaching 39°C and the minimum temperature is 21°C. Winters are mild with the maximum temperature hovering around 30°C and the minimum temperature of about 15°C. The best time to visit Coimbatore is between December and March. A salubrious climate makes the tourists enjoy every moment of their visit to the city.

How to reach

By Air - Coimbatore Airport is 12 km from the city and is well connected with Mumbai, Chennai and Kozhikode (Calicut).

By Rail - There are two railway stations in Coimbatore city; Coimbatore Junction and the Coimbatore North Railway Station. The Coimbatore Junction is the main railway station. A number of important trains pass through the city.

By Road - Bangalore, Chennai, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Pondicherry, Rameshwaram and Thiruvananthapuram are well linked with Coimbatore through road.
